A Doll's House so far, is a very interesting play in my opinion. In the play we have been introduced to many characters. The main two characters in the play are Torvald or Helmer and Nora. These two are husband and wife but don't even act like it. Their relationship is extremely frivolous but loving at he same time. For example, "has my little feather brain been out squandering money ?" ( Ibsen 148). This quote is symbolizing how Helmer uses little kid nicknames talking to his wife. This is also showing how their relationship is childish.
Nora is a very stuck up woman who thinks she is ravishing and her spouse Helmer is very humble and hardworking. That is why he got his advancement at the beginning of the play. Honestly, to be written in the year it was, it has a lot of now a day experiences which makes it entertaining and interesting. The way Ibsen uses Krogstad blackmailing Nora also makes the play interesting and entertaining. The way Nora acts with her children at the end of Act I makes me incredulously think of how weak she is inside as a person. It also makes me think that she doesn't really chill with her children. Over all, I think the play is pretty good so far.
Before I go on with my comment I would just like to point out my appreciation for your comment on Nora and how "she doesn't really chill with her children" (I don't know, I just appreciated the informality of it). I would also like to say that Torvald's usage of nicknames for Nora isn't necessarily "childish" (in my opinion), but more so shows his lack of respect for her.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jamir. Nora and Helmer are very childish. I also agree that she is very stuck up about herself and she should stop lying to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about how she acts with her children. She treats them like dolls instead of chilling with them like you said, and I think this mostly shows her immaturity. She doesn't seem responsible enough to handle the responsibilities that come with a family, or the responsibilities of life in general.
